Have you heard of the Great Resignation of this era?

According to the Bloomberg Businessweek, more than 24 million of Americans has quit their jobs from April to September in 2021 and many are staying out of the labor force.

Anthony Klotz, the psychologist and professor at Texas A&M University who coined the term "Great Resignation", said that we were all able to take a step back last year (2020) and spend more time doing other things and really question the value of what we're doing at work. A number of people have made the decision, 'I need to make a change'.

On 1 Dec 2021, I joined the Great Resignation.

And you might wonder why I made that decision.

"Why not stay on? The salary is good."

"Hang in there. Many people are out of jobs. You're lucky to have a job".

Yet, there are also people who tell me that "I envy you".

You see, the pandemic has given me a gift of massive self-realization.

  • I have a nagging desire to do something more meaningful in my life. I selfishly wanted to feel the joy of seeing the personal growth and transformation in others through my coaching, training and therapy services.

  • Life is short - as I'm seeing more people that I know passing away at a young age. And the worst feeling to have is the REGRET of not pursuing what I want in life.

  • The pandemic (and so is the changing work and social environment) is a testament that life is impermanent and uncertain.

  • The lockdown makes me realize that the pursuit for material wealth is meaningless - yes, I do have a collection designer bags that is collecting dust in my shelf.

Summing up the above, I have a desire to help the people in need to get through with their lives meaningfully. And if I don't pursue this now, when will I? Because life is always uncertain and life is also impermanent. That means whatever luxury I have now can be lost and whatever that's lost can also be gained back again. It's all up to my own creation. So, I'm now taking a leap of faith into the unknown.

This is me on my last day in my job:
